December 11, 2023

What if I told you that you could cut your note-taking time in half, without compromising the accuracy of your notes?

Practice Better is proud to be the first to market with a feature that we know you’re going to love. Our gift to you is a time-saving feature that our beta testers loved: The Practice Better AI Charting Assistant.

With this brand-new add-on, you’ll be able to focus more on your clients during your telehealth session instead of scrambling to take accurate notes in real time (or remember every little thing that happened once the session ends).

Let’s take a tour of this new feature and how using it will help save you significant time each week, reducing your frustration and risk of burnout.

Benefits of AI Charting Assistant

Accuracy and consistency

As healthcare professionals, we all know that documentation is incredibly important; if it wasn’t documented, it didn’t happen, right?

With the AI Charting assistant recording everything you and your client say, you can rest easy knowing you’ll have a reliable record of the conversation.

Improved analysis and insights

With more accurate and complete notes, you’re able to make decisions and recommendations that are even more evidence-based; your data is stronger.

Plus, it is easier for you to identify your clients’ patterns and trends in behavior to be able to offer more personalized care.

Here’s a video walk-through of how to use the AI Charting Assistant to speed up your note-taking while focusing on your clients.

Benefits of ambient listening

Would you rather talk to your partner or spouse while they’re making eye contact or while they’re scrolling on their phone?

Your clients feel the same way; both you and your client benefit from having notes taken automatically; you’re able to connect more authentically with exactly what your client is saying, in real-time.

Enhanced patient engagement

With the AI Charting Assistant, you’re able to listen actively, without the distraction of taking notes. This helps you and your clients to form stronger connections, with more trust.

Comprehensive patient understanding

Communication isn’t just what folks say, it is how they say it.

By delegating accurate note-taking to the AI Charting Assistant, you’ll have more bandwidth to notice the nuances and non-verbal cues that your clients are exhibiting.

This makes your assessment holistic and gives you more information to guide your treatment plans.

Real-time feedback and intervention

With your focus more fully on your client in real-time, you’re able to offer immediate responses to your patient’s concerns and proactively monitor for early interventions.

Addressing concerns and ethical considerations

With any new tool, there will be questions and concerns. Let’s address a few common concerns we heard from our beta testers.

Data security and privacy

Maintaining human touch

No matter how skillful and accurate AI technology becomes, it will never replace your skills, expertise, and critical thinking.

The benefit of helpful AI technology is that you have more brain space to participate in the care process by not having to dedicate so much of your energy and focus on charting.

This is a win-win for both you and your clients.

Part 2: Enable the AI Charting Assistant

  • Click on the gear icon in the top navigation bar then select the “Telehealth and Messaging” option.  Here, you’ll have some new blocks in this menu.
  • We suggest that you select  “Enable Recordings of Practice Better telehealth sessions on start” so that you don’t forget to record a session.  Don’t worry – you can still manually turn the recordings on or off during any session. Note: you can also manually turn on and turn off this feature within a live session, having this feature turned on just ensures you don’t have to remember to turn the recording on each time you start a new client session.
  • If you use Zoom for your telehealth sessions and want to have your sessions automatically recorded, then you can enable automatic recording by following these steps.

2. Choose from three summarization formats

AI Charting Assistant offers three different styles of formatting the information gathered.

  • Outline: bullet-point description of the client session.
  • Narrative: a long-form description in whole sentences.
  • SOAP: separated into Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Plan, sections.
Note summaries from the AI Charting Assistant come in several forms, like SOAP notes.

All three styles document the same information, it is just presented a bit differently. You get to pick what works best for you.

3. Incorporate into Notes manually or automatically

A question our beta testers had before trying the feature was about how accurate the summaries were.

Guess what? They were blown away by the accuracy of the AI Charting Assistant!

4. Accessing recordings and summaries

Not only does the AI Charting Assistant take an audio recording and craft an accurate transcript, but it also does the important work of processing this information into a summary and clear action items that are ready to be added to your final notes with ease. The AI Charting Assistant also creates bookmarks so that you can review specific sections of the notes easily.
