How does ePrescribe work in Practice Better?

It’s an integrated workflow with DrFirst, letting you send prescriptions directly from your Practice Better account without separate logins. Medication history syncs automatically, and safety alerts appear in your normal workflow — all within the Practice Better.

Is this feature compliant with regulatory standards?

Yes. DrFirst is a certified, HIPAA-compliant e-prescribing platform. It includes real-time drug interaction and allergy checks, supports DEA requirements for controlled substances, and provides full audit trails for compliance documentation.

Do I need a separate DrFirst login?

No. Once enabled, you access ePrescribe directly within Practice Better. The DrFirst portal opens as a pop-up in your account, so you can prescribe without leaving Practice Better.

Can I prescribe controlled substances?

Yes. ePrescribe supports controlled substance workflows (EPCS) if you have the proper credentials. You’ll complete identity proofing through ID.me and set up two-factor authentication with either a mobile VIP Access app or a physical hard token. Then you’ll use your EPCS passphrase plus a one-time PIN each time you prescribe controlled substances.

Will I see safety alerts or interaction warnings?

Yes. You’ll receive real-time alerts for drug interactions, allergies, and dosage issues via DrFirst’s built-in system. These appear before you send any prescription, helping you prescribe safely.

Does this feature cost extra?

Yes. ePrescribe is $49/month per practitioner with a one-time onboarding fee of $99 per practitioner. EPCS is included in this price at no additional cost. PDMP is an optional add-on at $5/month per practitioner, with a one-time onboarding fee of $399 per practice per state.

Can nurse practitioners and functional medicine doctors use Practice Better ePrescribe?

Yes. Nurse practitioners, functional medicine doctors, and other credentialed healthcare practitioners in the United States can prescribe directly from their Practice Better account. DrFirst’s Surescripts network supports prescriptions for all credentialed practitioner types.

What’s the difference between Practice Better ePrescribe and a standalone tool like RXNT or iPrescribe?

Practice Better’s ePrescribing is integrated into your EHR — you create and send prescriptions directly from client records without a separate login. Medication history syncs automatically, and drug interaction alerts appear without leaving your account. Standalone tools require separate logins and manual reconciliation with your EHR. With Practice Better, everything happens in one integrated workflow.

Is ePrescribe available outside the United States?

This feature is currently only available for practitioners based in the United States.

Can admins send prescriptions on behalf of a practitioner?

No. Only credentialed prescribing practitioners can send prescriptions.
