Biocanic does one thing exceptionally well: aggregating health data into meaningful clinical insights. For functional medicine practitioners trained to work with labs, wearables, and biomarker trends, that's compelling. But data intelligence is one part of running a practice. When you're ready to stop stitching tools together and manage your entire practice in one place, Practice Better is built for that.

Biocanic is a health intelligence and data aggregation platform. Practice Better is a complete practice management system. They solve different problems — and for practices that need both, only one platform covers the full picture.

The differences come down to what each is built around and what's offered in their core platform.
Practice Better is built around the client relationship. Telehealth, food and lifestyle journals, daily habit tracking, program creation, and protocols sit alongside scheduling, payments, messaging, charting, and more — so the work you do between sessions lives in the same record as the session itself.
Biocanic is built around lab and wearable data, with AI analytics and outcome reporting available on the Nexus plan ($299/month). Both platforms cover scheduling and payments, so the decision comes down to where you want to start: the client or the data.
Practice Better integrates with That Clean Life on every plan, which gives you over 8,000 recipes and automated meal plan creation, alongside food and lifestyle journals for your clients.
Biocanic offers meal planning and food logging as a paid add-on, and the add-on on its pricing page covers up to 50 active clients per month. If you carry more active clients than that, ask what coverage costs beyond 50.
Both platforms offer a suite of AI-tools — the difference is in how much you pay for what you use.
Practice Better’s suite of AI tools comes bundled with every base plan tier, and includes AI Session Prep, AI Writing Assistant, AI Form Builder, AI Fax Classification, and AI Program Content Generator*. The AI Charting Assistant add-on is billed per practitioner in three monthly tiers: $10 for 20 hours of recorded sessions, $20 for 60 hours, and $40 for 120 hours, with overage at $0.02 per minute. Notes generate inside the client’s chart in narrative, outline, or SOAP format.
Biocanic’s native AI scribe is bundled into Nexus, the highest paid tier (starting at $299/month), which also includes AI analytics and outcome reporting. Biocanic also integrates with Heidi.
If AI is critical to your daily workflow, compare what the Nexus tier costs against a full suite that starts at $35/month.
*AI Program Content Generator is available on Professional plans and higher.
Lab analysis is Biocanic’s focus. It correlates results with symptoms and wearable data and tracks outcomes such as GAD-7 and PHQ-9 scores. Practice Better connects to Rupa Health and Fullscript Labs, so US practitioners can order labs and receive results in the client record.
Weigh that against how much of your week lab interpretation takes up. If it's one input among several, Practice Better may offer a more efficient workflow by keeping nutrition programming and client engagement in the same record.
Practice Better’s Team plan supports multiple clinicians with role-based access, unlimited admin licenses, and shared scheduling, with the full feature set included. Plans start at $155/month for two practitioners, with additional practitioners at $50/month each (up to 200 total), and custom pricing for organizations of 10 or more.
Practice growth is something Biocanic struggles to support past a certain point. Their highest plan tier, Nexus, starts at $299/month and includes up to eight practitioners. Consider whether your clinic may eventually outgrow a platform of that size before making a decision.
Practice Better meets HIPAA, PIPEDA, and GDPR requirements, and also PHIPA for practices in Ontario.
Biocanic’s pricing page lists HIPAA and GDPR compliance. It does not mention PIPEDA. If you serve clients in Canada, ask Biocanic for documentation before moving any client data.
Practice Better’s plans for solo practitioners start at $35/month and scale through Professional ($69/month) and Plus ($99/month). The Team plan is $155/month for two practitioners, with additional providers available at $50/month per practitioner. Popular tools like telehealth and workflow automations are included on every paid plan.
Biocanic is priced as a Core plan ($75/month) with add-ons. Unlike Practice Better, ePrescribe only becomes available at Biocanic's Health Intelligence Max plan ($175/month), more than Practice Better's Team plan costs in its entirety. Nexus (AI analytics and scribe), business automation tools, and third-party API access become available at $299/month.
The total difference between the two will depend on which add-ons you need and how many team members you support, so the cleanest comparison is a quote for your own setup from each platform.
